A Vitpilen 801 that lives in a city is not an obvious candidate for a dust filter, which is why the argument has to be made carefully. The dirtiest air this bike breathes is not on a gravel track. It is in a multi-storey car park, in a road tunnel with a queue in it, and in the two metres of air behind a lorry pulling away from lights. All three are enclosed, all three are places where brake and tyre particles have nowhere to disperse, and none of them adds the kilometres that would tell you what happened. PM283P14 is the finer of the two everyday elements catalogued for this airbox.
Key Features
- Dry nonwoven medium, used without oil of any kind
- 14 microns of filtration at 1,800 litres per square metre per second
- Filtering area around double that of other performance filters
- Loads through its depth rather than across a single surface
- Standard airbox fit: nothing cut, nothing repositioned, no remap
- Two years of warranty from the date of purchase
Dose rather than distance
A filter's working life is not measured in kilometres but in the volume of air that has gone through it and what that air was carrying. Those two things come apart badly in town. Ten minutes stationary in an underground car park with engines running around you is a heavier dose than an hour of empty motorway, and the trip computer records the opposite. That is the argument for choosing a medium against the worst air rather than the average: 14 microns at 1,800 litres per square metre per second, against the 80 microns and 5,050 of the standard weave for the same housing.
The half of the trade you pay every day
Roughly a third of the flow is given up, and it is given up permanently, not only on the days when the dust arrives. What softens that on an urban bike is when each half is called upon: the flow figure only matters at large throttle openings held long enough to signify, which in traffic is rare, while the retention works on every revolution. It is still a trade and not an upgrade. A finer medium holds back more and passes less, and it fills sooner, so the airbox lid comes off more often. And no element inside a standard housing makes a standard 801 noticeably stronger.
Care and cleaning
Blow the element through with compressed air, always from the clean face outwards so the load leaves the way it came in. Water and a mild detergent deal with what air will not shift, then rinse until the water runs clean. Dry it in moving air, at a distance from heat guns, radiators and open flame, and refit it only when it is dry through. No oil is applied at any stage. The Downloads tab carries Sprint Filter's maintenance sheet for PM283P14.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Husqvarna Vitpilen 801 built from 2024 to 2026. Three machines share the element: the Vitpilen 801, the Svartpilen 801 and the KTM 790 Duke from 2022 onwards. The Fitment tab lists them in full, and the part number is what identifies the filter across two marques.
