A filter belongs to a housing, not to a badge. That is worth stating plainly on a listing for the F4RC LH, because the model designation says nothing at all about the intake side while the fitment list says everything: eight MV Agusta 1000s, three body styles, model years from 2013 through to 2026, one part number. R189S-SBK is specified against the airbox those machines have in common, and what separates them sits somewhere else entirely.
Key Features
- One WorldSBK-specification element covering eight machines across the MV Agusta 1000 range
- Dry polyester woven to a calibrated aperture rather than pressed from pulp
- Threads from ø 22 microns — the filtering is done by the spacing, not by the thread
- 80 µm, 5,050 l/m²/sec, and around twice the surface area of other performance filters
- Series airbox, series ducting, series mapping: nothing needs changing to fit it
- Washed and put back rather than bought again, with two years of warranty
What the fitment list is telling you
Eight entries under one number means the manufacturer left the airbox alone while changing a great deal above and around it. Bodywork, electronics, suspension and finish separate an F4RC LH from a Rush; the space air travels through on its way to the throttle bodies does not. That has two consequences for an owner. Availability is the first — an item supported by eight machines stays in production far longer than one tied to a single short-run model. The second is that any comparison of intake behaviour between these bikes has to look past the filter, since all of them breathe through the same one.
Specification, not persuasion
It is worth being blunt about what this element will and will not do. It will not add power to a standard machine; the ceiling is set by the engine, not by the cloth in front of it. It will hold intake restriction low, and because it is washed rather than replaced it will keep that restriction from creeping upward between services. Over a long ownership it will also stop being an expense. That is a modest list and it is the accurate one. What this part is expensive for is the racing frame and construction underneath it, not a performance claim attached to it.
Care and cleaning
Nothing is added to R189S-SBK when it is serviced, which is the whole point of a dry medium. Compressed air applied to the clean side and directed outward is what a normal clean consists of. Heavier deposits come out with warm water and a little mild detergent, followed by a rinse until the water runs clear of colour. Drying is passive and unhurried: still or moving air, never a heat source, since heat is what breaks down polyester fibre. It is refitted dry, with no oil, no spray and no dressing of any kind. The maintenance sheet can be found in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
