All of it depends on the engine management having an accurate picture of how much air is arriving, and that picture comes from a sensor sitting in the intake tract downstream of the filter.

Key Features

Dry polyester medium — never oiled, so there is nothing to wash out and nothing to re-apply

Woven polyester threads from 22 micrometres, not pressed paper fibre

Around twice the filtering surface of other performance air filters

Direct replacement in the standard airbox — no modification, no remap

Washable and reusable, designed by Sprint Filter to last the life of the motorcycle

Two-year warranty from the date of purchase

Why an oiled filter is the wrong choice on a sensor-rich engine

A hot-film air mass sensor works by measuring how much heat a passing airflow carries away from a heated element. Anything that coats that element changes the reading — and filter oil, carried downstream as a fine mist by the airflow it is sitting in, coats it. The ECU is then trimming fuel against a number that is quietly wrong, and every system stacked on top of that fuelling inherits the error. The failure is not dramatic and it does not throw a code straight away; it presents as an engine that runs a little differently and a rider who cannot say why. The P08 PM155S contains no oil at all, so there is nothing to migrate.

Dry polyester, and what it is actually made of

The medium is woven from polyester threads of at least 22 micrometres, arranged to give roughly twice the filtering surface of other performance elements in the same airbox volume. It is not a gauze that needs a tacky coating to hold particles, and it is not a paper element that has to be thrown away once it has done its work. Compressed air from the clean side restores it; water and a mild detergent deal with anything more stubborn. It goes back in dry, and there has never been an oiling step to forget.

Care and cleaning

Blow it through from the clean side with compressed air, working outwards. For a deeper clean, wash in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinse until the water runs clear, and let it dry fully in air — never with heat, never with a flame. Refit it dry; there is no oiling step and never has been. The Sprint Filter maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.

Fitment & Compatibility

Made for the KTM 1190 Adventure and 1190 Adventure R from 2013 to 2016. The same PM155S element covers thirteen machines across the KTM and Husqvarna range; the complete list is in the Fitment tab.
