The Trumpet gets its name from the outlet: a case that tapers along its length and then opens out again at the mouth. On the right motorcycle it is the most elegant shape Spark makes.

The Flare

Most silencers end where the case ends. The Trumpet does not: the last section opens outward into a bell, which is a period detail borrowed from megaphone exhausts of the fifties and sixties and one that almost nobody still builds.

It is harder to make than a straight cut. The bell has to be formed rather than rolled and the wall thins as it opens, which is why the shape mostly disappeared when exhaust production got cheaper.

Which Bikes It Suits

Anything with visible frame tubes and a horizontal line: a Bonneville, a Guzzi, a big single, a cafe racer built on almost any donor. The Trumpet reads as a continuation of the frame rail, so it works where the exhaust is meant to be part of the drawing rather than tucked out of sight.

On a modern faired sports bike it does not. That is what the Konix Evo and the Grid-O are for.

Sound

An opening outlet changes the way the exhaust note leaves the case — less directional, fuller in the mid range. Spark supplies the insert in the box, so the same silencer can be run closed for the road and open for a paddock.

A Kilo and a Half

Fifteen hundred grams of AISI 304, which is what a formed bell costs in weight against a plain cut. It is the price of the shape, and on the kind of motorcycle this silencer belongs to it is not a figure anybody is optimising.

Ceramic if You Want It Dark

The black ceramic treatment is offered as an option on this case, applied to order. Spark also builds a factory Black Series version under article G00SI12B if you would rather have the finish done at the works than added afterwards.
