Danish 26 Brasil C3 is the loudest helmet MT builds on this shell, and it is loud on purpose: this is the one-off design for the Brazilian round, and one-off designs are made to be picked out of a group on television.

About the Brasil C3 finish

Gloss. A fluorescent green field runs across the crown and down the flank, meeting a cyan band that sweeps back into the tail. A deep blue panel with a woven print sits at the front with the numeral 13, and a red MT badge anchors the lower rear. DANISH is lettered above the visor aperture.

Four saturated colours on a single shell should not work together at all. This one does, and the reason is that the values are carefully staggered: the green is light, the cyan mid, the blue dark, and the red is small enough to read as punctuation. Take any one of those away and the balance goes.

Being seen, and where the colour helps

A fluorescent green helmet is a genuine conspicuity aid in daylight, and for a reason worth understanding. Fluorescent pigments absorb ultraviolet and re-emit it as visible light, so they return more visible energy than falls on them — which is why they look "brighter than white" in the overcast, low-UV conditions where seeing a motorcycle is hardest.

And where it does not help: after dark. Fluorescence needs UV, and there is none at night. Retroreflective material on your jacket does the night-time work; a paint scheme does the daylight work.

What a one-off race design is

A paint scheme on a road helmet. The Targo S underneath is identical to every other Targo S — same shell, same standard, same equipment. Danish's competition helmet is a different construction entirely.

What is genuinely different about a round-specific design is availability: these are produced for a season and not repeated. If you want it, that is the argument for not waiting.

No drop-down shade — and why that interacts with this colour

This model has no internal sun visor. There is no slider behind the brow; the only way to a tint is a second screen.

On a fluorescent helmet that is worth thinking about twice. Bright paint reflects a good deal of light back up under the visor from the chin bar on a sunny day — a mild but real source of glare that dark helmets do not produce. If you ride this one in strong summer sun, a smoked MT-V-14B is not a luxury; it is the thing that makes the helmet comfortable at midday. MT-QVSS makes the swap a matter of seconds, but the screen still has to be with you.

MT-QVSS

Two buttons, no tools, usable in gloves and with the helmet on. MT's patented quick-change mechanism is the headline technical feature of this model and the reason a helmet without an internal shade is still practical.

What the homologation label means

Look inside the strap and you will find a white label reading 06 followed by a country code and a serial. The leading 06 is the part that matters: it identifies the helmet as approved under ECE 22.06 rather than the superseded 22.05.

Under 22.06 a helmet is struck at 18 points rather than five, at more than one speed, and — the substantive addition — at an angle against a rough anvil, which is how the test finally measures rotational loading. A 22.05 helmet is not illegal to wear, but it was never subjected to that test. This model also carries DOT for the American market.

Anti-fog

The MT-V-14B takes the Pinlock DKS209 as well as the FogOff FOG003 and FOG017 inserts. Neither of them is included with the helmet, and an insert is the accessory to buy first if you ride outside summer.

Fluorescent paint and sunlight

An honest warning specific to this finish. Fluorescent pigments are the least lightfast colours in any paint system — the mechanism that makes them glow is also what consumes them. A fluorescent helmet left on a windowsill through a summer will visibly lose intensity in a way a standard green never would.

Keep it in its bag or in a cupboard rather than on display in a sunny room, and it will hold its colour for years of normal riding. This is not a defect; it is what fluorescence costs.

Six sizes, starting at 51 cm

The range runs XXS to XL. Two things follow from that which are worth knowing.

First, MT can offer a fluorescent design in a genuinely small size — bright helmets are disproportionately bought by newer and younger riders, who are also the group most often forced into a helmet a size too big. Second, if your tape reads 51 or 52 cm, the XXS is the size, not a "small" from a range that stops at XS. Buying up a size to be comfortable is the most common fitting mistake there is, and it undoes a large part of what the helmet is for.

Retention and interior

Wash the lining more often than you think on a bright helmet. The brow band is what darkens first, and a grubby lining behind a fluorescent shell is far more noticeable than the same lining in a black helmet.

• No Pinlock insert, no smoked screen.
• Fluorescent paint fades in strong sun. Store it in the dark.
