The Naked 890
Ducati took the new V2's engine and chassis, fitted a wide handlebar and removed the fairing. At 120 horsepower and 178 kilograms it is a genuinely light naked motorcycle.
A Clean-Sheet Twin
The 890 shares nothing meaningful with the Superquadro it replaced. Ducati designed it for weight and usability rather than for a capacity ceiling in a rulebook.
Universal Slots
One clamp pattern for the original master cylinder and the radial units. It removes a decision from the ordering process rather than answering it with two part numbers.
Reachable With a Full Grip
On a naked bike the hands are also fighting air pressure. A control that can be worked without loosening a grip matters more here than it does behind a fairing.
Hot Water After Every Outing
A naked bike offers the pressure washer a direct line to its switchgear. Sealed elements inside a machined body are the only real answer to that.
Taken Apart Repeatedly
Track day machines come apart between outings. A milled body handles that where a moulded one with snap fittings loses tension after a handful of rebuilds.
Standard Refits Quickly
Nothing cut into the harness. A Streetfighter used at circuits does not have to look like one on the commute or in a classified advertisement.
Light Enough to Matter
Ducati has spent the last decade adding power to nakeds. The 890 V2 is the model where the company chose to remove weight instead, and it is the more interesting decision.
A Riding Position for Roads
Wide bars, a reachable seat and enough steering lock to use in a city. It is the version of this platform most people would be better served by.
