DescriptionThe whole story▼

An hour after sunrise the valley roads belong to whoever got up for them, and in autumn they come with fog in the dips and moisture standing on the tarmac in the shade. A Ducati Panigale 899 of 2014 or 2015 is a fine tool for that hour, provided the front brake behaves the same in the cold damp as it did on the way home the previous evening. Accossato's front pad for this smaller Panigale is built on the AGPA177 carrier, and this article is the Sintered material, which the company links with a grip level that stays constant hot or cold and works on a wet disc.

Key Features

  • Front brake pads for the Ducati Panigale 899, 2014 and 2015
  • AGPA177ST: the AGPA177 carrier pressed with the Sintered material
  • Accossato names constant grip at low and high disc temperature, plus wet grip
  • For early starts, damp air and roads that never saw the sun
  • Two pads to a box, the set for one caliper
  • This model carries a caliper on each front disc, so the wheel needs two boxes
  • EV1, EV2 and ZXC share the same carrier
  • No German ABE in our files; listed for racing and closed-course use

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato does not sell this compound on a single number but on the absence of surprises. Whatever the discs have been doing, the same pull ought to give the rider the same result, and moisture on the working face is not supposed to alter the bargain. On a machine used at dawn that is worth more than any peak figure, because the first firm application of a ride happens when nothing is warm. The metal carrier beneath the material is the AGPA177, shared by every article in this group, so swapping compound later is a change of face and not of fitting.

Fog in the Dips Before Breakfast

Early rides have a particular hazard. The road is dry on the crests and wet in the hollows, the temperature falls noticeably between one and the other, and a patch of shade under trees can still be damp at midday in October. Add leaf mulch at the edges and a low sun straight into the visor and the picture is complete. A Panigale 899 handles all of it well, but the rider needs to be doing the braking earlier and in the upright part of the road rather than halfway into a bend.

What helps is planning the first twenty minutes as a warm-up for everything, not just the tyres. Squeeze the front lever gently as you leave the village to dry the faces. Ride the first few bends with the brake finished before the turn-in. Watch the surface change colour where the trees start. And when a new set has just gone in on an 899, use those quiet early kilometres for a series of moderate applications to bed everything in, rather than discovering how it behaves at the bottom of the first descent.

Fitment and Compatibility

The application list gives this article to the Panigale 899 for model years 2014 and 2015, which is the whole of the model's run in the catalogue. The larger and later machines in the family are covered by their own entries and should be ordered that way. For the rear wheel Accossato names the AGPA42 across the same two seasons, and its disc programme offers the DK053 and the DKS035 for this Ducati. A box equips one caliper, and there are two of them on the front wheel of an 899.

Road Approval

We received the AGPA177ST without a German ABE and without a test report, so the pads sit in the catalogue as parts for racing and closed circuits. No approval for public roads is claimed for them here.

Scope of Delivery

One box holding two AGPA177 pads in the Sintered material, the set for a single front caliper. Doing both sides of the front wheel on a Panigale 899 takes two boxes.
