DescriptionThe whole story▼

Racing a rare motorcycle is mostly a logistics problem. Anything that breaks at a Ducati Panigale 1299 Superleggera meeting has to come out of the van, because nobody in the paddock will have a spare for a machine built in such small numbers. Brake pads are one of the few consumables an owner can stock without difficulty. Accossato's front article for this 2017 model is the AGPA106, and this listing carries the EV2 racing material, which the company puts forward as a top compound for competition.

Key Features

  • Front brake pads for the Ducati Panigale 1299 Superleggera, 2017
  • AGPA106EV2: the AGPA106 carrier in the EV2 racing material
  • Accossato names it a top compound for competition
  • For race meetings, where a spare set in the van is part of the plan
  • Two pads to the box, the pair for one caliper
  • Two front calipers on this machine, so two boxes fill the wheel
  • ST, EV1 and ZXC cover other uses on the same carrier
  • No German ABE available; sold for racing and closed circuits

Construction and Material Quality

This is the material Accossato addresses to competition, and the wording is short because the audience is narrow. Nobody buying it is worried about how it behaves outside a supermarket; they want to know that the tenth heavy application of a session resembles the second. What sits beneath it is the same AGPA106 carrier used for the gentler materials in the group, which is convenient for a team: the spares box holds one shape of part and several faces, and a change of compound between practice and the race needs no other preparation.

What Goes in the Van for a Rare Machine

The spares list for a Superleggera weekend is written differently from anyone else's. Bodywork is irreplaceable, wheels are not something you borrow, and a crash on Saturday morning can end a meeting that took months to arrange. What a team can do is make sure the ordinary consumables never cause a problem: fluid, a spare set of pads for each end, cable ties, and enough time in the schedule to change anything that needs changing between sessions rather than in a panic on the grid.

The 1299 Superleggera also rewards a slower approach to the first laps of a weekend. Carbon wheels and a light machine change how quickly the front loads up, and a rider coming from a heavier bike will find the markers arrive differently. Use practice to establish where the braking points are before asking the pads for everything, and walk round the machine with a torch when it comes back in: pad material remaining, fluid level, nothing weeping at a union, and the discs clean of anything that found its way onto them in the paddock.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato's table has a single line for this article and this machine, the 1299 Superleggera of 2017, front wheel. Sister models in the 1299 range are listed under their own entries and should be ordered that way. For the rear axle of the Superleggera the catalogue names the AGPA42, again for 2017 alone, and no Accossato disc is offered for the model. Each box equips one caliper, so a machine prepared for a race weekend uses two of them at the front, and most teams keep a third on the shelf.

Road Approval

There is no German ABE for the AGPA106EV2 in our documentation, nor any report from a testing authority. These are competition pads and we sell them as such, for circuits rather than for the road network.

Scope of Delivery

One box with two AGPA106 pads in the EV2 material, the set for one front caliper of a Panigale 1299 Superleggera. Both front calipers together take two boxes.
