DescriptionThe whole story▼

Aprilia launched the RSV4 in 2009 as a road-going superbike built around a compact V4, and its front brake has always offered far more power than a road rider needs on most days. Power like that is controlled through position: which fingers are on the lever, and where along the blade they sit. The Accossato EDF099 replaces the RSV4's front brake lever with a CNC-machined aluminium part for the original master cylinder, adjustable for reach and made in three lengths. Accossato lists it for 2009 to 2015, for 2017 and again for 2021 to 2023.

Key Features

  • Front brake lever for the Aprilia RSV4, listed 2009 to 2015, 2017 and 2021 to 2023
  • Mounts on the original master cylinder
  • Distance to the grip adjustable near the pivot
  • Short, standard and long blades; standard approximately 138 mm
  • Seven blade colours, black hub
  • Machined aluminium, anodised
  • Fixed blade without a folding joint
  • No German ABE documented, for track use

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato machines the EDF099 on CNC equipment from a solid aluminium blank and anodises it afterwards. The result is a lever with a uniform section and a colour that is part of the metal: black at the hub, where the pivot and the reach adjuster sit, and your choice of seven colours on the blade. Because the blade carries no hinge, the only movement in the lever is its rotation around the pivot, and the relationship between finger position and braking force stays the same every time.

Where the Fingers Sit on the Blade

A brake lever works like any lever: the further from the pivot you pull, the more force reaches the master cylinder for the same effort. That is why an identical squeeze feels gentle near the hub and much stronger at the tip. On the RSV4, riders who brake with two fingers usually place them towards the outer end, where a light effort already produces serious retardation, while the other fingers stay on the throttle. Riders who use the whole hand spread the effort along the blade and get a broader, softer feel.

Blade length decides where those positions can be. The short EDF099 brings the tip closer to the pivot, so two fingers at its end still work with good leverage while the lever stays clear of the other fingers at full squeeze; it comes in blue, gold, green, orange and silver. The standard blade, about 138 mm and available in all seven colours, keeps the original lever's proportions. The long blade in blue, gold, green or orange gives four fingers room and the most leverage at the tip. Whichever you choose, set the reach so that the fingers you brake with land on the blade naturally, without sliding along it.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the EDF099 for the RSV4 for 2009 to 2015, for an FW version of 2017 and for 2021 to 2023, which is why the years on this page have gaps. The lever fits the original front master cylinder. If you are unsure which version you own, compare your stock lever with the product photos before ordering. On the clutch side, Accossato lists the ESV004 for the RSV4 of 2009 to 2015 and 2017, but not for the later years.

Road Approval

For German roads there is no documented ABE. The lever is therefore sold for the circuit.

Scope of Delivery

One EDF099 brake lever, anodised in the colour you chose and made in the length you selected, comes in its own box.
