Numbers on a filter box are easy to compare and easy to misread. The 560 l/m²/sec that belongs to this medium says nothing about how much air a Multistrada airbox will move; it measures the material itself, over a square metre of it, per second. What reaches the engine depends on that figure and on how much medium is folded into the housing — and Sprint Filter elements carry around twice the filtering area of other performance filters. The Sprint Filter T12 PM127T12 is the finest medium in the catalogue: a dry polyester special non-woven filtering to 7 microns, specified for extreme conditions and unsealed ground.
Key Features
- Filtration to 7 microns — nothing in the Sprint Filter range goes finer
- Rated at 560 l/m²/sec, measured per square metre of medium
- Roughly double the filtering surface of other performance elements
- Dry construction, with no oil to work loose and travel forward
- Replaces the original element in an unmodified airbox
- Backed for two years from the day it is bought
Reading the flow figure properly
A rating per square metre per second describes a material under test, not a part on a motorcycle. Two elements cut from the same medium pass very different amounts of air depending on how much of it the housing holds, which is why surface area is part of the answer rather than a detail. It is also why comparisons between media must be like for like: 80 microns and 5,050 l/m²/sec for the road-going P08 weave, 7 microns and 560 for this non-woven. The gap is enormous — a factor of nine — but it belongs to the material, and the surface built into the element is what turns that material into a usable filter.
Whether it is the right medium for a Pikes Peak
Often it is not, and a page that argued only one way would be no use. This is the road-biased end of the family, specified for fast sealed surfaces, and a medium giving up nine tenths of its flow per unit area is an odd companion for it. The T12 exists in this fitment because the whole Multistrada line shares one airbox, not because every member of it needs the finest thing available. Fit it if a dusty season, a piste crossing or a summer of dry gravel roads is ahead. If not, the P08 is the better-matched part and the flow stays where it does some good.
Care and cleaning
Use an air line on the clean face and let the dirt leave the way it arrived; that alone covers ordinary service, as often as the riding demands. Where a residue stays behind, lukewarm water and a mild detergent will shift it, followed by rinsing until nothing more washes out. Dry it in moving air, never with heat or a naked flame, and refit it only once it is dry through. Nothing is oiled at any stage. The care sheet for the PM127T12 is attached under Downloads.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Ducati Multistrada 1200 Pikes Peak of 2016 and 2017, replacing the standard element in the factory airbox without alteration. Eight machines in the Multistrada line take this element, spanning the 950, the 1200 and 1260 generations and both Enduro versions. The full list is in the Fitment tab.
