Read This First: Which GS Is Yours

The price list runs this article from 2013 to 2018, and mechanically it fits that whole span. The paperwork does not. Spark's own note on the article page says the homologation certificate has not been updated for models from 2017 onwards, which are Euro 4 machines.

In practice: on a Euro 3 GS the certificate is valid and this is a road silencer. On a 2017 or 2018 Euro 4 GS the silencer bolts on, but there is no current certificate to present for it, and that makes it a part you cannot rely on at a roadside check or a technical inspection.

We would rather tell you that now than after the parcel arrives. If you are not certain which emissions standard your GS was registered under, send us the frame number.

Titanium, Including the Bit Most People Forget

The kit is titanium throughout, and that includes the link pipe. Spark welds the connector directly to the silencer rather than clamping it, which removes the joint that leaks first and holds the alignment after a long life of heat cycles and vibration.

Against the standard silencer the saving is two kilos: 2.5 kg fitted, 4.5 kg removed. On a bike that already carries its weight high, that is felt at walking pace as much as at speed.

A Line That Follows the Frame

Spark set the silencer at the same angle as the frame rather than at the angle that was easiest to build, so it reads as part of the bike instead of an addition to it. The support bracket is steel, for a grip that lasts, and it is hidden behind the body so that it does not break up the line.

Sound Aimed at Long Days

The tone comes from three things: the volume of the silencer, the sound-absorbing material Spark packs it with, and a db killer made for this article. The result is deep without being tiring — the distinction that matters when the rider and the passenger are both still in the saddle six hours later.

The outlet is laser-cut in three dimensions to give it a downward angle. Same reasoning as the bracket and the frame line: it keeps the gas flow off the top case.
