One Unit for Both
Ducati builds the right-hand controls into the throttle housing. This component renews the complete assembly in machined aluminium using the original connector.
Nine Hundred and Fifty-Five Cubic Centimetres
The middleweight Superquadro's final capacity, reached by lengthening the stroke. Euro 4 forced the change and the engine came out with more torque everywhere.
The Corse Edition
Ducati offered a 959 Corse with Öhlins suspension and a specific livery. It is the version worth looking for and it barely cost more when new.
Sealed Elements
Contacts enclosed within the machined body. On a bike ridden through seasons rather than stored, ingress is what decides how long the switchgear lasts.
A Machined Bore
The tube turns in a bore that is cut rather than formed, which keeps the throttle position honest. Ride-by-wire means the engine reads exactly what the hand did.
Black Anodising
Converted into the aluminium. A scuff dulls the surface rather than exposing bright metal underneath a chipped coating.
Cut From Solid
Ergal 7075 at roughly twice the yield strength of the alloys in most machined accessories. Harder to work and considerably more durable where it clamps.
Still a Monocoque
The 959 kept the frameless architecture, with the airbox carrying load between the headstock and the engine. It remains unusual to find at this price point.
Ducati's Plug
Pre-wired to the original connector. Nothing is cut into the loom and nothing needs configuring once the ignition comes back on.
The Exhausts Everyone Mentions
Euro 4 forced the silencers out from under the tail and onto the right-hand side, and the 959 has been judged on that ever since. Ducati moved them back for the V2 without saying much about it, which was as close to an admission as the company was ever going to make.
