Eleven Model Years
Yamaha introduced this R6 in 2006 with a 17.500 rpm ceiling and left the fundamentals alone for a decade. It was the highest-revving production four-cylinder motorcycle of its era and it defined what a supersport machine sounded like for a generation of riders.
Where They Are Now
Almost entirely on circuits. A supersport bike of this age is not an appealing road machine and is an excellent track one, and the population is large enough that parts and knowledge are both abundant.
Twenty-Year-Old Plastic
The oldest examples date from 2006. Nothing on the original switch housing has broken, but the material has hardened, the clipped halves have worked apart and the buttons across the joint feel indistinct. Yamaha does not sell the contacts separately.
A Cable Throttle
This generation predates ride-by-wire, which means fewer functions on the handlebar and a simpler cluster. Fewer buttons means each can be larger and better separated, which suits a bike operated in racing gloves.
Universal Clamp Pattern
A bike this old has usually had its brake changed at least once, and there is no reliable way to know which geometry a used machine arrived with. The universal plate removes the question.
One Finish
Black anodised on this part number, converted into the surface rather than laid on top. A low-speed slide dulls it rather than exposing bright aluminium underneath.
Built to Be Crashed
Track bikes go down, and a moulded housing splits at the clamp where a milled one scuffs. Across a season of club racing that difference shows up in the parts budget rather than in a single incident.
