DescriptionThe whole story▼

The hardest off-road skill on a twin-cylinder adventure bike is not speed but slowness. Picking a way down a rocky path or through a narrow gap between trees, a BMW F 850 GS is at its most awkward at walking pace, when its weight wants to fall to one side. Riders who stay on their feet at that speed keep the bike upright far more easily than those who sit. Accossato's enlarged footpegs for the F 850 GS of 2018 to 2022 are made of Ergal and come in green or black.

Key Features

  • Enlarged footpegs for the BMW F 850 GS, 2018 to 2022
  • Material: Ergal, a high-strength aluminium alloy
  • A wider base for the boot when balancing the bike standing
  • Built by Accossato for motocross, enduro and off-road bikes
  • Green or black finish
  • Sold as a left and right pair
  • No German ABE on record; competition use

Construction and Material Quality

What Accossato says about these pegs fits into one sentence: enlarged footpegs made of Ergal, for motocross, enduro and off-road bikes. Ergal is a high-strength aluminium alloy. Enlarged here means a bigger platform than the standard pegs, and that gives the boot a wider base at exactly the moment the rider is balancing the F 850 GS through the feet. The pegs come as a pair, left and right, in green or black. The manufacturer has published no more than that, so neither do we.

Balance at Walking Pace

Slow riding while standing is mostly a question of where the weight goes. At walking pace the F 850 GS is steered as much by pressure on the pegs as by the handlebar: press down on the left peg and the bike tips left, load the right one and it comes back. Riders practise this on an empty yard or field, first along a slow straight line, then in a slow circle and finally in a figure of eight, trying never to put a foot down. A light touch of rear brake against a little throttle keeps the drivetrain taut and the bike steady, while the clutch smooths out any jerks.

The eyes matter as much as the feet. Stare at the ground just ahead of the wheel and the bike wanders; look a few metres further, towards the gap you want to pass through, and it follows. Keep the knees bent and relaxed so the motorcycle can move beneath you. A wider footpeg helps in a small way here: the boot sits squarely, and weight can be shifted without the sense of balancing on a thin bar.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato's application list names the F 850 GS from 2018 to 2022, and we list the set for those model years. No other Accossato footpeg is available for it; the same pair is in our range for the F 700 GS, the F 800 GS and the R 1250 GS. Once the pegs are on, fold each one up by hand and let go: it should return fully. Then sit on the bike in riding boots and check the reach to the brake pedal and the gear lever, because a larger peg changes the feel under the boot.

Road Approval

Neither a German ABE nor any other approval has been provided to us for these footpegs. Their place is in competition, and that is how we offer them.
