DescriptionThe whole story▼
A motocross track changes completely when it rains. Lines disappear, ruts fill with water, and every bike gathers a coat of mud until it is hard to tell one from another. On a TM Racing MX 250 two-stroke, braking in those conditions becomes guesswork, and the front brake lever is caked in mud along with everything else. Accossato's B8206 is a folding brake lever for the MX 250 two-stroke from 2001 to 2019, CNC-machined from Ergal 7075 in Italy and built so that its blade can hinge forward in a crash.
Key Features
- Folding front brake lever for the TM Racing MX 250 two-stroke, 2001 to 2019
- Two version groups listed by Accossato: 2001–2009 and 2010–2019
- Mounts on the original front brake master cylinder
- Shorter blade designed for three fingers
- Anti-break hinge lets the blade fold forward
- Machined from solid Ergal 7075 in Italy
- Blade in black, blue, gold or red on a dark base
- No German ABE documented; for motocross and off-road use
Construction and Material Quality
Among aluminium alloys, Ergal 7075 sits in the high-strength group, and Accossato mills the B8206 from a solid block of it on CNC machines in Italy because it wants its levers strong, light and dependable. The lever consists of a dark base, mounted on the master cylinder, and a blade in black, blue, gold or red, which is connected to it by a hinge and can fold. Brake levers in this range are shorter than the clutch levers and made for three fingers.
When the Track Turns to Mud
Braking in heavy mud is about smoothness. The front tyre is packed with clay and grips far less than usual, so riders brake earlier, more gently and in a straight line, and lean more on the rear brake and the engine. Wet gloves slide on the lever, and a lever coated in mud feels different under the fingers from lap to lap. A three-finger blade gives more of the hand something to hold, which helps when gloves and lever are both slippery.
Mud races are also full of slow, heavy crashes. A bike stops in a deep rut and falls over, or slides into another rider who is already down, and the lever lands in the mud, on a rut edge or against another machine. The hinged blade of the B8206 can fold forward in such a fall rather than break off, so the MX 250 two-stroke has a better chance of continuing with its brake lever intact. After the race, rinse the mud out of the hinge and check that the blade still moves freely. The hinge will not save it every time, but in a mud race, finishing at all is already worth a lot.
Fitment and Compatibility
On the TM Racing MX 250 two-stroke, the B8206 takes the place of the stock lever at the original front brake master cylinder for model years 2001 to 2019, which Accossato splits into the groups up to 2009 and from 2010. Riders of the later bikes can add the C7283 folding clutch lever. Black, blue and red can be ordered on both levers; gold is only available for the brake.
Road Approval
The B8206 is sold without a German ABE. It is intended for motocross and off-road competition, the same use for which the MX 250 two-stroke was built.
