People use a simple rule when a catalogue offers two versions of one part: the dearer one must protect better. In this Ducati airbox the rule points the wrong way. The finer of the two road specifications — this 14-micron nonwoven — is the cheaper of the pair, listing at roughly three quarters of the standard 80-micron woven panel. That order is not a verdict on either element. Price follows material and process, and a nonwoven mat and a woven screen are made by different methods.
Key Features
- 14-micron dry nonwoven, Sprint Filter's fine-dust grade for the Streetfighter V2's airbox
- Flow rated at 1,800 litres per square metre per second; the standard woven element, 5,050
- Roughly double the filtering area of a conventional performance element
- Direct replacement for the factory panel — a single element per bike, no airbox work, no adaptor, no remapping
- Completely dry in service and never oiled, so nothing reaches the intake sensors
- Washable and reusable, drawn for the life of the motorcycle, two-year warranty
Reading the ladder with the price taken out
Remove cost from the comparison and the two elements argue on their data sheets alone. The standard panel is rated at 80 microns and 5,050 litres per square metre per second. This one is rated at 14 microns and 1,800. Neither figure makes one better; together they describe a single trade, and each end of it belongs to a different road. A Streetfighter V2 living on clean sealed surfaces meets the reduced rating first and gains little. The same machine on dry back lanes in late summer stands on the other side of that trade.
What is being bought, stated plainly
Not power. An element that drops into an unmodified airbox does not make a standard Streetfighter V2 noticeably stronger, and this one gives away roughly two thirds of the standard flow rating in exchange for what it holds back. The return comes in two other currencies. One is stability: a restriction that drifts less across an interval than a loading paper panel does. The other is that the part stops being a consumable — washed and put back rather than bought again.
Care and cleaning
Servicing costs time and compressed air. Hold the line to the clean side and drive the dust back out of the fibres; for a dry medium that is the whole routine. Where the deposit has turned sticky, lukewarm water and a mild detergent shift it, then rinse until nothing more comes away. Drying is done in moving air at room temperature, never with heat and never over a flame, and the PM279P14 is refitted dry and untreated. The maintenance sheet is filed under Downloads on this page.
Fitment & Compatibility
Listed for the Ducati Streetfighter V2 of 2025 and 2026 with the 890 cc V2 engine. The same element covers three more machines: the 2026 Hypermotard V2, the 2026 Monster V2 and the Panigale V2 of 2025–2026, four in total. The 955 cc Streetfighter V2 sold until 2024 is not among them and takes a separate code. Check the displacement and the year of build before ordering.
