Nobody specifies a fully equipped 1050 Tiger for two summers. This is what you choose when the plan is to keep the bike, and a bike kept that long will one day be handed to somebody else. Intake work is the awkward kind, because it is invisible. A new exhaust is heard from the pavement and a rebuilt fork shows in the ride, but an air filter is cloth behind a cover nobody lifts during a viewing. The Sprint Filter PM115S turns a repeating purchase into a fixed part of the motorcycle.
Key Features
- Dry woven polyester in a single layer, threads starting at ø 22 microns, aperture calibrated to 80 µm
- 5,050 l/m²/sec of flow, the specification Sprint Filter publishes for road and circuit duty
- Holds back 93.13 % of 100-micron particles, against 76.42 % measured on four-layer oiled cotton
- Never oiled, so the hot-film sensor and throttle bodies stay clear of anything carried in on the airstream
- Uses the standard airbox as it is: open the cover, change the element, close it, no remapping and no brackets
- Serviced with air instead of replaced and rated for the life of the machine. The guarantee period is two years.
The upgrade that survives the handover
Most of what an owner spends over a long ownership leaves nothing behind but receipts. Tyres, pads, chains and paper elements belong to whoever happens to be riding at the time. A lifetime filter is one of the few exceptions. It goes into the airbox once and is still there when the bike is advertised, so the next owner inherits a service item needing an air line, not a parts order. Making that legible costs nothing: note the part number in the service book and keep the original element in a labelled bag.
Arithmetic over a long ownership
Set the two approaches side by side across the fitment window, 2012 to 2026. One is a paper element bought at every interval in the handbook, at its best on the day it goes in and its worst on the day it comes out. The other is one purchase followed by a few minutes with compressed air at the same intervals, restriction back at its starting value every time. Neither makes the triple stronger; that is not what an intake filter does. The difference is what you spend, how often you order anything, and whether the air path is at its best or its worst on the week the bike is loaded and far from home.
Care and cleaning
Work the air line across the clean side of the PM115S so the dirt leaves the way it arrived; that is the whole routine most of the time. Once or twice a season give it lukewarm water and a mild detergent, rinsing until the run-off is clear. Drying happens in still air, nowhere near heat or a flame, which distorts the weave. Refit it only when properly dry; there is no oiling stage to remember. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
For the Triumph Tiger SE 1050, model years 2012 to 2026. The element is shared by five machines on the platform: the standard Tiger 1050, the Sprint GT 1050 and the 2005–2010 Speed Triple and Sprint ST. Check the Fitment tab against your year and variant before ordering.
