Sprint Filter P08 Air Filter for Road & Track – BMW F 900 GS (2023–2026) PM188S

The F 900 GS was BMW's answer to a specific criticism: the middleweight had grown heavy. The 2024 bike came back lighter in almost every dimension that could be made lighter, which puts an unusual constraint on anything you bolt to it — most upgrades give something back and take weight in exchange. The Sprint Filter P08 PM188S is one of the few that does not. It replaces a paper element with a polyester one inside the standard airbox, and the airbox itself carried over, so nothing about the intake changes except what the air passes through on its way in.

An upgrade that does not fight the weight programme

Intake modifications usually come with a bill. An aftermarket airbox, a velocity stack, an open filter with a heat shield — each of them adds parts, and most of them ask for a remap to be useful. This does none of that. The element occupies exactly the space BMW designed for a filter, in a housing that keeps the intake sealed and the water out, and the engine management sees a slightly freer path rather than a different one. It is the rare upgrade that is subtractive: you take away restriction without adding anything.

Made for the way the 900 is ridden

The lighter GS invites a harder duty cycle than the bike it replaced — more time on loose surfaces, more of the day spent above where a touring rider would sit. Both raise the demand on the filter, one through dust and one through sustained airflow. A dry element with twice the surface starts from a lower pressure drop and holds it as it loads, and when the day is over it cleans with compressed air rather than going in the bin. If your riding involves genuine dust, that combination is the reason to fit it.

Care and cleaning

Blow it through from the clean side with compressed air, working outwards. When more is needed, wash in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinse until the water runs clear, and dry fully in air — never with heat, never with a flame. Refit dry; there is no oiling step.
