Housing and Contacts Together
The right-hand controls sit inside the throttle assembly. Both are renewed here from a single machined body using Ducati's own connector.
Öhlins on a Naked V4
Electronically managed suspension and forged wheels on a motorcycle with 208 horsepower and no fairing. The damping is doing continuous work rather than sitting at a compromise.
A Hundred and Seventy-Eight Kilograms
Dry, with more power than most superbikes and handlebars. Nothing about the specification is sensible and that is precisely the appeal.
Sealed Elements
Contacts enclosed inside the machined body. There is no bodywork on this motorcycle to stop water reaching the bar and no moulded seam here for it to use.
Precision at the Grip
The bore is cut rather than formed, which keeps the throttle tube concentric. On a naked bike with this much torque, that matters at every corner exit.
Black Anodising
Converted into the metal. Against gold suspension and forged wheels it is the component that stays quiet, which on this motorcycle is welcome.
Cut From Solid
Ergal 7075 at roughly double the strength of ordinary machined aluminium. Harder to work and considerably better where it clamps to a handlebar.
The Same Engine as the Superbike
The Desmosedici Stradale, counter-rotating crank and all, with a different airbox and final drive. Ducati changed remarkably little and the result is unlike anything else on sale.
Original Plug
Pre-wired, so nothing is spliced or soldered. Two fasteners, one connector, and nothing to configure.
An Unreasonable Motorcycle
A hundred and seventy-eight kilograms dry, 208 horsepower and a wide handlebar, with electronically managed suspension trying to keep all of it in contact with the road. Ducati built it because it could, and the S is the version for people who wanted the idea taken as far as it would go.
