The Middleweight That Goes the Distance
The Adventure version adds eight litres of fuel, engine bars, a taller screen and a wider seat to the F850GS. It is the choice of riders who want the 21 inch front wheel and the off-road geometry but also need to cross several hundred kilometres of motorway to reach the interesting part.
Loaded Weight and Low-Speed Drops
With panniers, a top box and a full tank, an F850GS Adventure is a substantial motorcycle to hold up on a soft verge. Most of the damage these bikes accumulate happens at almost no speed, and the outer edge of the handlebar is one of the first things to reach the ground. A billet housing takes that better than a moulded one.
Why Both Parts Have to Be Replaced Together
The right-hand switches are built into the throttle housing on this platform. There is no way to renew one without the other, which makes the standard replacement more expensive than it looks and makes an aftermarket unit that covers both a reasonable proposition rather than an indulgence.
The Unlettered Version
This housing carries no model designation. The GS-badged alternative exists for those who want it; on a bike this heavily equipped, most owners find the plain version disappears more comfortably into a cockpit already crowded with mounts and cables.
Sealed Rather Than Merely Covered
The switch elements inside this housing are sealed units, and the body itself is cut from one piece with no moulded joint. On a bike that will be washed with a hose after every green lane and ridden through standing water on the way home, that construction matters more than any figure about material hardness.
