The JP ES 022 answers the side stand input on the Desert X, which is what the engine controller reads before it decides whether the motorcycle may run in gear.

Retro Styling on Purpose
Ducati referenced the 1990s Cagiva Elefant rally bikes deliberately, and the twin round headlights are the clearest signal of that intention.
An Open Circuit
That is all the electronics see, and they cannot distinguish it from a deployed stand or a broken wire. All three produce identical behaviour.
Nothing Coded
No dealer session, no reset and no adaptation run. The circuit reads correctly from the first ignition cycle and the panel shows nothing at all.
Why Bridging Goes Wrong
The controller looks for a particular condition rather than continuity, and a jumper across the terminals sometimes reads as a different fault entirely.
On a Panigale on a Circuit
The stand is among the first components removed, along with the mirrors and the plate. Very few track-prepared superbikes retain one for long.
Preparation Always Starts Here
Lights, mirrors, plate, stand. Fitting the eliminator immediately after the stand comes off means the engine will run in gear for the rest of the evening, which is the only way anything else can be checked.
Access
Usually straightforward: the connector sits within reach once the left fairing panel or belly pan is off, and on naked models it is often reachable without removing anything at all. Ten minutes covers most machines.
Diagnosing Before Deleting
A stand switch that has failed produces exactly the behaviour a missing one does, so it is worth knowing which situation applies. On a road machine the correct answer is usually a new switch; on a track machine the switch was coming off anyway and the eliminator is the shorter route.
