The JP CJP 074H corrects the VFR 800's fuelling cell by cell rather than along a single curve, which is the difference between a map and a trim.

VTEC on a V4
Honda's variable valve system switches from two valves to four at around six thousand revolutions. The step is the defining characteristic of the engine.
Model-Specific Wiring
The harness is cut for one motorcycle with the correct connectors moulded on. That is why the catalogue lists machines rather than engine families and why year spans matter.
Why Not Just Reflash
A remap of the original controller reaches ignition and the rider aids as well, and it is written into the motorcycle. This unit is narrower, reversible and belongs to the owner.
The Injector Signal
Everything happens there. The unit lengthens or shortens a pulse the standard controller already issued, which is the least invasive way to change what an engine is fed.
At a Race Meeting
Conditions change between practice and the race. A programmable unit lets the map follow them, which is the entire argument for this over a fixed curve.
Sharing Is a Starting Point
A file from an identical motorcycle saves the first evening and no more. Engines, sensors and exhausts vary enough that the last ten percent is always local work.
Backups Off the Laptop
Copy the good maps somewhere else. Laptops in paddocks get dropped, rained on and left behind, and a map is easier to lose than to recreate.
Catalyst Removal
Taking the catalyst out changes back pressure and removes a component the factory map assumed. It is one of the strongest reasons to be running a programmable unit.
The Cost of the Whole Setup
The unit, a wideband sensor and a bung welded into the exhaust. Together they cost less than a decent silencer, and without the sensor the unit is an ornament with a USB socket.
