The Last Air-Cooled Boxer
BMW kept the oil and air cooled twin alive for the nineT long after the rest of the range had moved on. Its fuelling is simpler and rather more characterful for it.
Fitting Comes First
The unit goes in, the map stays empty, the motorcycle is ridden. Only then does the mapping start, because a baseline you have felt is worth more than one you assumed.
Two Owners, One Bike
The map lives in the unit, not in the rider. Anybody who rides the motorcycle gets whatever was last written, which is worth remembering on a shared machine.
Class Rules
Some series regulate engine management tightly. Establish what is permitted before ordering, because an ineligible controller is an expensive way to learn a rulebook.
The Wrong Purchase
A standard motorcycle, no wideband and no intention of learning the software. That owner should buy the preset module and be happier for it.
Rich Has a Cost Too
Washed bores, fouled plugs and wasted fuel. The target is correct rather than generous, which is another reason the wideband is not optional.
The Point of It
An engine that has been changed deserves a mixture that follows the change. This unit is the tool for doing that properly rather than approximately.
Two Bikes, One Unit
Not practical. The harness is model-specific and the map belongs to a configuration, so moving the unit between machines means a new harness and a new map.
Where Owners Give Up
Not at the fitting and not at the software. It is the discipline of repeatable measurement that defeats people, because a map built on inconsistent readings is worse than no map at all.
