Values Have Held
Unlike the standard 675, the R has stopped falling. Enough were preserved and enough are wanted that the market found a floor.
Red Subframe
A small visual signature on the earlier bikes that owners still use to identify them at a distance. Triumph understood that details of that kind matter.
Not the Electrical Half
The controller monitors its solenoid regardless of what is bolted to the head, so the circuit still needs its own eliminator.
Machined Rather Than Cast
Turned from billet with the sealing face cut in one operation, which is why the finish is flat enough to seal on a ring alone.
Sold Separately for a Reason
Some owners want the electrical fault gone and nothing else. Others want the whole system out. Triumph's arrangement lets both happen.
Why the Housing Fails
It is a moulding bolted directly to a cylinder head, which means it lives through the widest temperature range on the motorcycle several times a day. The reeds inside flex on every closed throttle, and after enough cycles one cracks. Mileage has very little to do with it.
What an Inspection Would Find
Original fasteners, original torque and an unmarked head face. The exchange leaves no evidence beyond the cover itself, which is the property that makes it reversible.
The Thermal Argument
A moulded plastic component bolted to a cylinder head sees a temperature range nothing else on the motorcycle experiences. Aluminium is indifferent to that range, which is the entire practical case for the exchange.
The Reeds Are Not Serviceable
Triumph supplies the housing complete. A cracked reed means a new assembly, which is part of why owners choose aluminium instead.
