The standard housing refits on its own fasteners with no replacement seals required, so the engine returns to specification whenever it needs to.
What Leaves the Engine
Four items leave the motorcycle: the reed box, the line running forward to the intake, the clips along it and the fasteners underneath. What remains is a cylinder head with a flat cover on it.
Fewer Perishables
Very little bolted to a cylinder head is designed to be replaced. This box is, and swapping it for solid metal takes a future bill off the list rather than only an emissions part.
Where Owners Go Wrong
Overtightening into an aluminium head is the commonest damage done, and it converts a short job into a thread repair and a considerably longer afternoon.
