Most Panigale V4s sold are S models, because the suspension and the wheels are what buyers at this level actually want. The base bike exists to set a price.
Why Riders Are Caught Out
The plate hanger is usually the first thing an owner changes, and nobody expects a small bulb behind a number plate to be electrically monitored.
LED Replacements Fail Too
A small LED plate light draws a fraction of the original, which the controller reads as an open circuit just as readily as no lamp at all.
On a Race Tail
One-piece bodywork has no provision for a plate at all, which means the hanger, the lamp and the bracket all leave together.
Nothing Else Is Affected
Riding modes, traction control and the rest of the electronics read entirely separate circuits and carry on exactly as before.
Where Owners Go Wrong
Cutting the connector off to fit a generic resistor, which works and makes the change permanent. It is not worth the small saving.
Not a Universal Resistor
Ducati's connector and load are specific, and a generic solution requires cutting. That single difference is what makes the proper part worth buying.
What a Tail Tidy Does to It
Most aftermarket plate brackets either come with a small LED lamp or come with nothing at all. Both draw far less than the original filament unit, and both therefore look identical to a burnt-out bulb from the controller's point of view. The warning that follows is the commonest reason anybody goes looking for a part like this.
Water Under the Seat Unit
The rear of a motorcycle collects everything the back wheel throws forward, and the area behind the plate is the wettest part of it. A potted body with a moulded plug survives that; a soldered joint wrapped in tape survives one winter and then produces an intermittent fault nobody can find.
