The JP ES 016 keeps the Multistrada V2 from reporting a number plate lamp failure once the standard illumination has been removed along with the original rear mudguard.

The Sensible Multistrada
It does almost everything the V4 does for considerably less money and less weight. Owners who have ridden both frequently keep the smaller one.
Presenting the Load
The eliminator supplies what the controller expects, so the warning clears and nothing is stored for a later diagnostic session to find.
Road Legality
A registration plate without illumination is not legal in most European markets, whatever else has been changed about the motorcycle.
The Fault Does Not Clear
It returns after every reset until the circuit reads correctly, which is why taping over the indicator is not a solution anybody keeps for long.
A Modification With a Long History
Riders have been shortening plate hangers for as long as motorcycles have had them, and manufacturers have been monitoring lighting circuits for nearly as long. The two habits have never sat comfortably together.
Not the Indicator Circuit
Indicators are monitored separately again, so a bike losing plate lamp, tail light and indicators needs three answers rather than one.
Sold With Race Tails
Anybody fitting one-piece bodywork will need this, because there is no provision for a plate anywhere on the assembly.
What It Does Not Cover
Indicators, the brake light and the main tail lamp each sit on their own monitored circuit. Fitting this part clears the plate lamp warning and nothing else, so a machine with several lighting changes may need more than one answer under the seat unit.
What the Load Actually Is
The circuit expects the current a small filament lamp draws, which is a fraction of an amp rather than anything dramatic. That is why the eliminator is a small sealed body rather than a heatsink, and why mounting it sensibly is a matter of tidiness rather than of thermal management.
