A Naked Bike Needs One More
Wide bars, a light front end and a hundred and seventy-five horsepower. Aprilia fitted the damper because the combination demands it rather than because it looked good on a list.
Managed, Not Fixed
Resistance varies with speed and with what the inertial platform reports, which is why the bike is easy at walking pace and stable at speed.
The Actuator Is Monitored
Checked at every start by the suspension module. Its absence produces a warning that stays on the panel until the circuit is answered.
Supplying the Load
This unit presents what the module expects, so the check passes and nothing is stored in the background.
Why Convert
A manual damper is rebuildable and repeatable, and a rider working at one circuit wants a setting that does not move. It is the same argument as for the forks and the shock.
Wind on the Rider
Without a fairing the rider is the aerodynamics, and the loads reaching the bars are considerably higher than on a faired bike. The damper works harder here.
Keep the Original
The standard unit is expensive and finds a buyer readily. Nothing about this conversion damages it.
Nothing Cut
Aprilia's own connector with no adapters and no splices anywhere.
Reversible
Refit the standard damper, unplug the eliminator and everything works as it did.
A Considered Decision
On a road-registered Tuono the variable damper is worth keeping.
Bars Move More Than Clip-Ons
A wide handlebar gives the rider considerable leverage over the front end, and it gives the front end the same leverage back. Everything that reaches the steering head on a naked bike arrives with more force behind it than on a faired machine.
