An Adjustable Screen
Moved by hand over a useful range. On a motorcycle designed around long days it is one of the details that decides whether it gets used.
Almost Unbreakable
The 650 twin has been in production in various forms since 2006 and has a reputation for durability that very few engines of any size can match.
The Tank Still Breathes
Fuel drawn out has to be replaced by air coming in, so the kit supplies a proper vent fitting. A hose cut short and left open works until the motorcycle lies on its side.
Access to the Shock
On several Kawasakis the vessel sits directly in front of the rear preload adjuster, which turns a two-minute setting change into an awkward job with a short tool.
A Component With No Diagnostic
Nothing on the motorcycle reports a saturated bed. There is no code, no warning and no service check, which is why the symptoms get blamed on almost everything else first.
Corroded Clips
After several winters the spring clips are usually seized. Replacing them on the refit is worth the small cost and the small effort involved.
What a Saturated Bed Feels Like
The engine turns over normally and refuses to catch for several seconds, then idles unevenly before settling. It is worst immediately after filling.
Where the Weight Matters
Weight matters less than where it sits. The drum lives above the swingarm pivot and behind the motor, which is close to the worst place on the machine for a kilogram and a half to be carried.
The Empty Bracket Question
Leaving the mount in place is untidy and pointless, and removing it makes the frame look finished. It also removes a place for road grime to collect, which matters on a motorcycle ridden all year.
