A Naked ShiftCam Boxer
The variable valve timing engine in a road chassis with no bodywork. The R1250R is quick, comfortable and almost entirely overlooked by a market fixated on the GS.
Visible From Beside the Bike
Without a fairing, the area behind the engine is on show. A plastic canister and three lines are the least attractive thing on an otherwise clean motorcycle.
What the Carbon Holds
Petrol vapour from the tank until a valve draws it into the intake. The bed has a finite capacity and nothing renews it.
Soaked at the Pump
Filling past the nozzle click forces liquid fuel into the carbon, and hard starting follows. Owners chase it through the fuelling instead.
A Correct Vent
The tank still has to equalise, so the kit supplies the fitting that lets it do so cleanly rather than through a hose left dangling.
A Fault That Would Not Clear
Left open, the circuit produces a warning that returns after every reset. Closing it properly is the only thing that ends it.
A Hundred and Thirty-Six Horsepower
From a boxer twin, with torque available everywhere. It is a very different way of going quickly and it suits a road better than most sports engines do.
Access Afterwards
Shock, linkage and exhaust hanger all become reachable once the assembly is out.
Reinstated for an Inspection
Where the system forms part of the approval, putting it back before a test is a straightforward afternoon rather than a workshop visit.
A Decision, Not a Default
Nothing about a road bike is improved by removing this. It belongs on a motorcycle where the space and the weight matter more.
