Take the standard nose off an R9 and the dashboard loses what was holding it. The instrument is mounted to the structure behind the headlights, and that structure goes in the same box as the lights. AL2001Y is what puts the dash back: an aluminium holder that carries the instrument behind the race cowl and gives the cowl itself something to locate against.

Why Aluminium and Not Carbon
Carbonin build almost everything else in this range from composite, and they did not here. The reason is vibration rather than strength. A dashboard is a mass on the end of a bracket, and on a three-cylinder engine it sits in a very specific vibration environment. Aluminium damps differently from a stiff carbon laminate and, more usefully, it tolerates being adjusted — a metal bracket can be eased a couple of millimetres to clear a loom or a steering damper, which a cured composite part cannot.
Angle Matters More Than People Expect
The dash on a race bike is read at maybe two glances a lap, from a full tuck, at a moment when the rider has other things to do. Getting the angle right so the screen is square to the rider's eyeline in that position — not in the paddock, sitting upright — is worth doing carefully during the build. It is a five-minute job then and an annoyance for a whole season if it is left wrong.
