DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Suzuki GSX-S1000 took a well-known sports engine, put it in an upright chassis and gave riders a machine that is quick without demanding a race crouch. Accossato lists the model for 2018 and 2019 against the FC122. Whatever the bike, the part of a track day that deserves the most care is the one involving a can of petrol, a warm machine and a paddock full of people. A quick-release cap plays a small part in that, and it is worth saying plainly what the rest of it looks like.
Key Features
- Quick-release fuel tank cap for the Suzuki GSX-S1000, 2018 and 2019
- CNC-machined aluminium, described by Accossato as robust and durable
- Quick-closing pawl for opening and shutting the tank
- Pin colours: blue, green, black, red, silver, gold
- Pawl orderable separately if it is damaged
- New design
- Application list decides the fit; check before ordering
- No German ABE documented; track use
Construction and Material Quality
The FC122 is aluminium from one end to the other, cut on CNC machines, and Accossato puts its faith in that construction rather than in any coating. The design is new. Closing is handled by a quick-acting pawl that shuts with a positive movement, which is what you want on a bike whose tank you have just filled from a can. The coloured pin inside the pawl is specified when ordering, with six shades to pick from, and the pawl itself is kept in stock as a separate part in case it takes a knock.
Sparks, Static and a Metal Can
Refuelling is the one job in the paddock that rewards slowness. The engine of the GSX-S1000 should be off and cool enough to touch before anything is opened, the bike should be upright and stable, and nothing with a flame or a spark belongs anywhere near, which includes cigarettes at the next awning and a generator running under a bench. Metal cans are earthed by contact if you keep the spout resting against the filler neck while you pour, and a slow, steady pour throws far less vapour into the air than an impatient one. Wipe up what you spill immediately, shut the cap before you carry the can away, and let the fumes clear before you start the engine again.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the GSX-S 1000 for 2018 and 2019 under the FC122, which is what this product covers. Later machines are not named in that entry, so check the year of yours first. We also catalogue the same cap for the GSX-S750, the GSX-R 1000 and the GSX1250FA.
Road Approval
This cap has no documented German ABE and no parts certificate, so it belongs on closed circuits. The GSX-S1000 leaves the factory with a cap that normally opens with the ignition key, and that is the one for public roads.
