DescriptionThe whole story▼
A boulder field is ridden more with the left hand than with the right. The throttle stays barely open while the clutch meters out small pushes of drive, just enough to roll the front tyre onto the next rock and let the rear follow. On an SWM RS 300 R that kind of crawling can go on for minutes at a time. Accossato's C7182 is a folding clutch lever for the RS 300 R from 2016 to 2019. It is cut from Ergal 7075 in Italy, gives four fingers room on its long blade and can fold at a hinge when the bike topples.
Key Features
- Folding clutch lever for the SWM RS 300 R, model years 2016 to 2019
- Mounts at the original clutch control in place of the stock lever
- Long blade laid out for four fingers
- Anti-break hinge: the blade can tip forward rather than break
- CNC-machined from a solid billet of Ergal 7075, made in Italy
- Blade in black, blue or orange on a dark base
- No German ABE documented; for off-road use only
Construction and Material Quality
Two machined parts make up the C7182. The base, finished in a dark tone, sits on the clutch pivot; the blade, in black, blue or orange, is joined to it by the hinge. Both are milled in Italy from a solid billet of Ergal, as 7075 aluminium is known in Italy, an alloy with a strength well above that of ordinary aluminium. Accossato says it wants a lever that is strong, light and reliable. As a clutch lever the C7182 has the longer of Accossato's two off-road blades, with space for four fingers to share the work.
Crawling Through the Boulders
Crawling over rocks is slow, deliberate riding. Feet leave the pegs to paddle or dab, the rear tyre hunts for grip on round, loose stones, and the engine is kept just above stalling with a steady slip of the clutch. Many riders like to keep the whole hand on the lever for this, because the pull is held for long stretches and small corrections are easier when four fingers share them. After a long rocky section, it is often the left forearm, not the legs, that tires first.
Boulders also punish small mistakes. A front wheel that slides off the side of a rock can put the RS 300 R on its left side before a foot can catch it, and the clutch lever lands between the bike and a stone. There is little energy in a fall at walking pace, but the lever is loaded by the weight of the bike rather than by speed, and a solid blade can bend or crack. The C7182's hinge gives the blade room to fold forward instead. If it comes through, you lift the SWM, set the blade back by hand and keep crawling with full use of the clutch, which is exactly what the next rock demands.
Fitment and Compatibility
For the RS 300 R built from 2016 to 2019, Accossato names the C7182 as its folding clutch lever, fitted to the original clutch control. Its counterpart for the front brake is the B8281, listed for the same years. Since both come in black, blue and orange, the left and right levers can be ordered in one colour or deliberately mismatched.
Road Approval
The C7182 carries no documented German ABE. As the RS 300 R is registered for the road in many markets, bear in mind that this lever is for off-road use and competition only and is not approved for public roads.
