There is no warning light for it, no noise that starts up, no stage at which the bike behaves differently enough to send anyone to the airbox. So the decision has to be taken in advance, not in response: by the time a fine filter would obviously have been worth having, the period it would have covered is behind you. Media that hold more pass less; the relationship is fixed and Sprint Filter does not dress it up. The road-going P08 is rated at 80 microns and 5,050 l\/m²\/sec, this T12 at 7 microns and 560 — about a ninth of the air across the same area of material, the steepest reduction anywhere in the programme. On a big twin carrying luggage that is a real concession, and it only makes sense where the ground repays it. Piste, deep dry gravel and desert crossings repay it. A tour that stays on tarmac does not, and there the P08 is the better filter for the job.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eCare and cleaning\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe routine is compressed air, applied to the clean side, working outwards until the dust has gone back where it came from. A washing is only needed when air stops being enough: lukewarm water, a mild detergent, rinsed through until it runs clear. After that it wants open air alone — never a heat source, never a flame — and time to dry all the way through before it goes back in. It is never oiled, and it is fitted dry.
