Four media exist for this airbox, and no single machine is offered all four. The Crossfire/X is listed with the standard weave, with this 14-micron mat and with the racing weave; the Gaokin that shares the housing is listed with the standard weave, the racing weave and the 7-micron nonwoven instead. The hardware does not split that way — the price list does. Reading a fitment list with that in mind saves a good deal of guessing.

What the catalogue is and is not saying

What 14 microns costs and buys

Against the 80-micron weave in the same box, this mat passes roughly a third of the rated flow — 1,800 against 5,050 l/m²/sec — and holds a great deal more of what is suspended in the air. That is a trade and not a ranking: the finer medium is not the better one, only the one drawn for harder air, and the flow it gives up is given up on clean days as well as dusty ones. It is the right choice where dry gravel, farm tracks and dust behind other vehicles are the normal working environment rather than an occasional afternoon. And it is not power: in an unmodified airbox this element leaves a standard Crossfire/X exactly as strong as it was.

Care and cleaning

The CM136P14 is loaded through its depth, so it is cleaned patiently. Compressed air on the clean face, worked outwards, lifts the bulk of it; lukewarm water with a mild detergent takes what remains, rinsed until the water runs off clear. Drying is done in moving air at room temperature and by nothing else — heat guns and radiators ruin the nonwoven before any change is visible. Refit it dry, with nothing applied.
