More Bike for the Same Badge
The 2017 RR inherited the 201 hp engine, the six-axis platform and cornering ABS while keeping Sachs suspension and the lower price. It was one of the better value propositions in the class at the time.
Three World Championships Behind It
Biaggi in 2010 and 2012, Guintoli in 2014. Aprilia's superbike record was built with this engine architecture, and the road bike inherited rather more of it than most homologation stories admit.
The Later Control Set
This unit fits the 2017 to 2020 machines. Aprilia redesigned the left-hand block for the update and the earlier bikes need the plain AP009, which is otherwise very similar to look at.
Where the Left Hand Works
Indicators at every junction, headlight at dusk, menus between sessions. It is the block that accumulates operations, and it is usually the one that develops a lazy contact first.
Sealed Against Ingress
The elements are enclosed within the milled body. On a bike that gets washed after a track day and rained on the following week, that is the difference between five years of service and fifteen.
Black or Titanium
Anodised through the surface. On the RR's black and red schemes the black unit is invisible and the titanium one looks like something Aprilia might have specified.
No Wiring
Pre-wired for the original plug. Nothing is spliced, nothing is soldered and no code appears on the dashboard afterwards.
Sachs Was Never the Problem
The suspension difference between RR and RF is real but modest on a road, and a well set up RR embarrasses a badly set up RF without difficulty. What most RR owners changed first was tyres, and what they changed second was usually the cockpit.
