DescriptionThe whole story▼

Some of the falls that break levers happen with nobody on board. Park a Kawasaki KLX 250 on its side stand on soft ground, turn away to open a gate or take a photograph, and the stand slowly sinks until the bike leans past its balance point and lies down on its left side, clutch lever first. For the KLX 250 of 2009 to 2017, Accossato makes the C7127, a folding clutch lever CNC-machined in Italy from Ergal 7075. Its long blade suits four fingers, and its joint lets it fold forward when it meets the ground.

Key Features

  • Folding clutch lever for the Kawasaki KLX 250, model years 2009 to 2017

  • Anti-break joint allows the blade to fold forward
  • CNC-machined from solid Ergal 7075 in Italy
  • Black or green blade, dark base
  • No German ABE documented; off-road use only

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato mills the C7127 from solid Ergal 7075 in Italy. The high-strength aluminium alloy is the firm's answer to three requirements it sets for its off-road levers: strength, low weight and reliability. The lever consists of two pieces linked by a joint. The dark base stays put at the pivot of the clutch mount, while the blade, black or green, can swing forward on the joint when the bike falls or the lever is struck. Being a clutch lever, the C7127 has the longer blade of the pair, laid out for four fingers.

When the Side Stand Sinks

A side stand is designed for firm ground. On soft earth, wet grass or sand it presses its small foot into the surface, and the bike leans further and further until it goes over. The remedy costs almost nothing: carry a flat plastic plate or stand pad in a jacket pocket and slide it under the foot, or look for a flat stone. Park with the front wheel pointing slightly uphill if you can, leave the bike in gear, and on a sideways slope choose the side where the bike leans into the hill rather than away from it. A KLX 250 that stands securely is one less thing to watch.

When the bike does topple, it falls towards the stand, onto its left, and the clutch lever is often the first part to meet the ground, sometimes with a stone beneath it. A solid lever can snap in a fall that looks entirely harmless. The joint of the C7127 gives the blade a chance to fold forward so that the weight of the bike does not rest on the lever tip alone. Most such tip-overs are slow, and there is a good chance the lever comes through. It is still worth checking that it moves freely before setting off, and that the clutch engages as usual when you pull away on the KLX 250.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the C7127 for the Kawasaki KLX 250 from 2009 to 2017 and fits it at the original clutch mount. For the brake side, the B8145 folding lever covers the same years, and both levers are offered in black and in green.

Road Approval

The C7127 has no documented German ABE. If your KLX 250 is registered for the road, the lever is not approved there; it is sold for off-road use on private land and in competition.
