Every part in this catalogue is the crossing of two separate decisions. The first is the shape: a panel cut and folded for one airbox and no other, which is why the fitment list for the PM165S F1-85 contains a single machine, the Kawasaki Z900. The second is the material inside that shape, and the materials are catalogued independently of the motorcycles they end up in. That is how a racing medium comes to be offered for a naked road bike that no factory team races. The shape was drawn for the Z900. The medium was not, and the medium is the only half of the pairing a buyer actually chooses.
Key Features
- Sprint Filter's racing polyester: 85 microns, dry, with no oil used or required
- 15,000 l/m²/sec of airflow, roughly three times the rate of the standard P08 panel
- 95.22 per cent retention on 100-micron particles, against 93.13 per cent for the P08
- Close to twice the working surface of a conventional performance element
- Occupies the standard airbox unmodified — nothing cut, nothing spaced, no remap
- Serviced and reused instead of replaced, with two years of warranty
Choosing the half you control
Three materials are offered in this one shape, and they sit on a single line. The P08 holds to 80 microns and passes 5,050 l/m²/sec; this racing panel opens to 85 microns and passes 15,000; the P14 closes to 14 microns and passes 1,800. More retention always costs airflow and more airflow always costs retention — there is no rung above the others, only a position that suits the air you ride in and the servicing you will genuinely do. The racing panel is listed at about two and a quarter times the P08, which is a reasonable prompt to be honest about that second part.
What the word Racing is claiming
By Sprint Filter's own account these media are the most widely used in MotoGP, Moto3, World Superbike, Supersport and Superstock. That is a statement from the manufacturer about where its materials are found, not a measurement of what one of them does in a road-registered Z900's airbox, and it should be read that way. A drop-in element does not make a standard Z900 noticeably stronger; the F1-85 makes sense when the machine's use supplies the short oil intervals and frequent inspection that a coarser aperture assumes. Otherwise the P08 cross of shape and material is the better buy.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air, applied from the clean side and kept moving across the folds, returns the panel to a known condition and takes minutes — which is the practical argument for a dry medium in any setting where time is short. Where air is not enough, lukewarm water with a little mild detergent and a thorough rinse will finish the job. Dry it in moving air only; heat guns, radiators and flames all destroy polyester. Refit it dry, untreated, with nothing sprayed on. The Sprint Filter maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the standard airbox of the Kawasaki Z900 built from 2017 to 2026, the only machine listed for this panel. It is shown in the Fitment tab.
