Triumph sold this generation of the 1050 Speed Triple in three specifications, and the differences between them are quickly listed: suspension, brakes, instruments and the depth of the rider aids. The base S got the plainer version of all four. What it did not get was a plainer engine or a smaller airbox — the intake tract is common property across the range, which is why the S takes precisely the same Sprint Filter element as the R and the RS. The PM193S is one of the few things on this motorcycle where the entry model and the flagship are offered the same part for the same money.
Key Features
- Dry polyester medium that is never oiled, so no film can reach the sensors or the throttle bodies downstream
- 80 µm filtration paired with a rated 5,050 l/m²/sec of airflow, the specification Sprint Filter designates for road and track
- In Sprint Filter's comparison test the P08 retained 93.13 % of 100 micron particles, against 76.42 % for four-layer oiled cotton
- Its filtering area is about double a conventional sports element's — flow bought with surface, not with a wider mesh
- Drops into the unmodified airbox where the factory element sat; nothing is trimmed, packed or reprogrammed
- Two years of warranty cover, plus a service life Sprint Filter puts at the life of the motorcycle
Where the specification ladder stops
Trim levels are drawn where a manufacturer can charge for the difference: damping adjustment, a colour display, another ride mode. Air is not a place where that works. The engine is the same 1050 triple breathing through the same box, so there was nothing in the intake to hold back for the top model. Every other route towards R or RS specification means buying suspension or brakes; the airbox is already identical, and the element that goes into it is chosen on its own merits instead of by trim level.
The longest production run of the three
The S was built from 2016 to 2020 — five model years, as many as the R and the RS put together. Bikes with that kind of spread tend to be on their second or third owner by now, and the intake tract is the part of them no inspection ever reaches. The P08 settles it once: dry woven polyester, brought back with compressed air, with no consumable to order and nothing to dose correctly.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air does the routine work on a PM193S — direct it at the clean face so that what the weave caught leaves through the side it entered by. That takes ten minutes and no materials. After a wet or dusty spell, wash it in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinse until the water runs clear, and leave it in open moving air until it is dry all the way through. Keep it away from heaters, hot air guns and flame, and refit it dry. Nothing here is ever oiled. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Triumph Speed Triple S, 2016 to 2020. The same element serves three machines on this airbox: the S, the Speed Triple R of 2016 to 2017 and the Speed Triple RS of 2018 to 2020. The full list with model years is in the Fitment tab.
