Where the Bobber is styled around a stance, the Roamer is arranged around distance: taller bars, a narrower front wheel, a riding position you can hold for a full day. Distance rearranges which properties of a service part are interesting. Peak figures stop mattering and logistics start — what has to be carried, what has to be found, what can be dealt with on a forecourt with a coin-operated air line. Judged on that scale, the Sprint Filter P08 PM138S wins on being absent from the packing list.
Key Features
- Nothing to carry: no oil, no spray, no replacement cartridge in the luggage
- Dry polyester at an 80-micron aperture, flowing 5,050 l/m²/sec on test
- Approximately double the area of a conventional performance panel
- Series airbox, series mapping — the part goes in and nothing else is disturbed
- Serviceable anywhere there is compressed air, in a handful of minutes
- Two years of cover from the manufacturer, from the date of sale
The part you cannot buy where you are
Somewhere on a long route there is a morning when the bike wants something and the nearest Moto Guzzi agent is in a different country. Consumables are what get you there — and a paper element is the awkward kind, because it is model-specific, cheap enough that nobody keeps one spare, and useless once it has filled. Riders solve this by carrying one, which means carrying it for six thousand kilometres to use it once. A washable panel deletes the problem rather than packing for it: the element you already have is the element you refit.
Area is what a long day consumes
Sustained running is not merely a longer version of a short ride; it is a larger total volume of air pulled through the same piece of cloth. Twice the filtering surface means the same day's dust is spread over twice the material, so the resistance climbs more slowly and the panel is still working at a comfortable fraction of its capacity when the light goes. That is why the difference between filters shows up on the fourth day of a tour rather than on It adds no power, as no element in a sealed factory case ever has; it removes a dependency, which on a long route is by far the more useful of the two.
Care and cleaning
An air line applied to the clean face and worked outwards restores it on the road; a compressor at a filling station is entirely adequate. Back home, wash it in lukewarm water with a mild detergent and rinse until the water is clear, then let it dry fully in still room air. Nothing warm may be used to speed this up — no heaters, no engine bays, no flame — and the PM138S goes back in dry and untreated. Sprint Filter's own procedure sits under Downloads.
