The Eliminator is bought by people who did the sums. It is a relaxed, accessible cruiser at a price that leaves something over, and the ownership that follows tends to match: kept a long time, ridden steadily, maintained by the owner where the owner reasonably can. Air filtration is one of the places where that instinct pays, because the cost of an intake service is almost never the part. It is the afternoon, the booking, the bike being somewhere else for a day. The Sprint Filter P08 PM164S is a washable dry element for the standard airbox, and it changes which of those costs you pay.
Key Features
- Washable and reusable: the element is cleaned with compressed air rather than bought again
- Filtering surface roughly double that of other performance filters
- Replaces the standard element where it sits — no modification, no remap, no change to homologation
- Dry polyester, never oiled, so nothing can migrate downstream onto sensors or throttle bodies
- A woven medium: polyester threads from ø 22 microns at a calibrated aperture, not pressed pulp
- Two years of warranty from the date of purchase
Where the money actually goes
A replacement element is inexpensive. Fitting it is not, once it is bundled into a service where the labour is billed by the hour and the airbox is opened anyway. The awkward part is the recurrence: every interval brings the same part, the same access, the same line on the invoice. An element that is cleaned instead of replaced does not remove the access job, but it removes the part from the equation and it removes the dependency on somebody else's parts stock.
A job that needs air, water and patience
There is no specialist step involved. Compressed air from the clean side outwards is the routine service. A genuinely dirty element gets lukewarm water and a mild detergent, a rinse until the water runs clear, and a full air dry — never heat, never a flame. Then it goes back in dry, because it is a dry medium and always was; there is no oiling stage to judge, no curing time, and nothing that can be applied wrongly. Sprint Filter designs the P08 to last the life of the motorcycle, so on a bike bought to be sensible, the intake stops being a recurring purchase.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air from the clean side, working outwards, is what the element normally asks for, and it asks for it at whatever interval the riding suggests. A wash — lukewarm water, a mild detergent, a rinse until the water runs clear — is the occasional version of the same job. Both end the same way: a full air dry, with no heat and no flame anywhere near it, and a dry element back in a dry airbox. There is no oiling step in this medium's life. The Sprint Filter maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
