Water in an air filter is not a dirt problem, it is a flow problem. A medium that wets through holds a film in its openings, and the air has to work past that film until it dries again. The P037 is Sprint Filter's answer to that: a dry polyester weave that resists wetting, woven to 37 µm and rated at 4,500 l/m²/sec, catalogued for wet and demanding conditions rather than for lap times. On the 899 it is the assembly for a machine that gets ridden whatever the sky is doing.

What repellency does and does not do

It keeps the weave working as a weave when the air arriving at it carries moisture. It is not a seal, it is not a claim about deep water, and it is not a power part: an element in a standard airbox adds nothing noticeable to a Panigale 899 in any weather. What it removes is a variable. Paper swells and does not recover from it; a repellent dry cloth is meant to be washed on purpose, so the same element handles the wet ride and the cleaning that follows without ever becoming a consumable.

Where the finer weave costs something

At 37 µm this cloth is finer than the 80 µm standard P08 and it flows a little less, 4,500 against 5,050 l/m²/sec. That is the trade in its plainest form: more material held back, slightly less throughput, and no ranking implied in either direction. The smallest Superquadro on this fitment list is also the one least likely to notice the difference at the top of the rev range, which makes it a straightforward machine on which to buy for conditions rather than for headroom.

Care and cleaning

R127S-WP-SBK is serviced dry. Hold the frame, put an air line on the clean face and blow outward until the weave gives up what it caught. Where a winter of spray has left something air cannot move, wash it in hand-warm water with a mild detergent and rinse it through until the water comes away clean. Then it dries in ambient air only — no heat gun, no radiator, no flame — and goes back into the box dry and bare, with no oil or dressing of any kind. The maintenance sheet is under Downloads.
