Which Is the Argument for This
If the whole component has to be renewed anyway, renewing it in machined aluminium with sealed contacts costs comparatively little more and does not have to be done twice.
Where the Thumb Lands
Milled edges sit under a glove differently from moulded ones. A rider on a long day finds controls without deciding to, and the shape of what is under the thumb determines whether that works.
Öhlins and a Shifter
The S adds fully adjustable suspension at both ends and the bidirectional quickshifter. On a bike ridden for hours rather than laps, not touching the clutch adds up in a way that is hard to describe.
Weight, Marginally
A billet component is usually a little heavier than the plastic it replaces. Nobody buys this for weight and it is worth being straightforward about that rather than pretending otherwise.
Ultraviolet
Printed legends on moulded switchgear fade after a few summers of sunlight. There is nothing printed on this body, so there is nothing to lose.
A Hundred and Ten Horsepower
The 937 cc Testastretta tuned for the road, with torque low enough that the engine never asks to be revved. Ducati never pretended the SuperSport was a superbike and it is better for that.
Clips and Vibration
The factory assembly is held together with snap fittings that lose tension over years of engine vibration. A body cut from one block has nothing that can work loose.
The Loom Ends Where It Ended
The connector is Ducati's own, so the harness is not touched at any point. Anything cut is a fault waiting to be found in five years by somebody else.
