The End of the Twin
The V4 replaced the Superquadro superbike in 2018, ending three decades of Ducati twin-cylinder superbikes. It was the most significant change in the company's modern history.
Where It Lives
Under the seat unit or inside the tail, depending on the model. On most Ducatis the seat comes off with a key and the work is done in ten minutes.
The Alternative Costs More
A resistor spliced into the loom works until the splice corrodes, and then the fault it was hiding comes back at an inconvenient moment.
Not a Performance Item
Nothing about the engine, the chassis or the electronics changes. This is a lighting circuit and its influence stops at the tail of the motorcycle.
A Clean Fault Memory
The controller sees a normal load and records nothing at all, so a later diagnostic session reads a genuine history rather than a suppressed one.
Not a Legal Route
A road-registered motorcycle needs working rear lighting. This exists for machines with an alternative unit fitted or for use away from public roads.
Sealed Against Winter
The area under a seat unit is wetter and dirtier than most owners assume. A potted body is what makes the difference between one season and several.
Keeping the Standard Unit Complete
The tail assembly, its fasteners, its connector and the mudguard belong together. Dismantled across three boxes they are worth very little; kept as a unit they refit in an evening and answer the first question any careful buyer asks about a converted motorcycle.
The Standard Tail Unit
On this model the rear light is integrated into the seat unit rather than bolted beneath it, which means a conversion usually replaces the whole assembly rather than just a lamp. That is why the monitoring circuit notices immediately and why the connector is easy to find.
Track Preparation in Stages
Most owners strip the lighting before anything else, because it is reversible in an evening and costs nothing to undo. Answering the circuit at the same time keeps the panel clean for the parts of the preparation that follow.
