The Steering Lock Goes
Removing the barrel removes the lock with it. On a road bike that matters; on a machine in a van between circuits it does not.
Twenty Minutes
The work is short once the tank or the cover above the loom is out of the way. What varies between models is the access, not the job.
Race Kit Looms
Machines running a race harness expect a different arrangement, which is why some models appear twice in the catalogue under separate numbers.
Torque
The fasteners thread into the yoke and the figures are low. Looking them up is quicker than repairing a thread in an aluminium casting.
Where the Grams Come From
A steel barrel, a lock mechanism, a bracket and a wiring pack. None of it light and all of it above the steering head.
Why Ergal
It machines cleanly, anodises well and takes a knock without deforming. On a part bolted to a yoke that gets leaned against, that matters.
Nothing About Performance
No power, no fuelling, no response. The only measurable change is the mass on the scales and the only felt change is at the fingertip.
Anodised Through
The colour is grown into the surface rather than sprayed onto it, which is why an edge that gets knocked does not show a bright line.
The Immobiliser, Before Anything Else
If the key carries a chip, the aerial around the barrel belongs to the starting circuit and the engine will not run without it. Race looms and standalone controllers usually settle that already. On a standard bike it is the one thing that can stop this job.
