Indicators, Endlessly
A motorcycle used for real journeys means junctions, roundabouts and motorway exits by the dozen. The cancel switch is worked more than anything else on the whole machine.
Printing Goes First
The legends on the moulded original are surface applied and they fade within a few seasons of sunlight. Everything still functions and nothing can be read at a glance.
Temperature Swings
Cold mornings, hot engine, cold again, several hundred times a year. Plastics creep under that treatment where machined aluminium is entirely unaffected by it.
Clipped Construction
Two moulded halves and a set of snap fittings, under the vibration of an 821 twin for a decade. The play that develops is small, permanent and impossible to unnotice.
A Layer in the Metal
Anodising is measured in microns and is part of the aluminium. A scratch takes colour with it rather than exposing bright material underneath.
Reversible for a Sale
Nothing spliced anywhere. The original block returns in twenty minutes, which on a discontinued model that people collect is worth keeping straightforward.
A Touring Supermoto
Ducati added a screen, panniers, a larger tank and softer springs to the Hypermotard. Nobody else attempted the idea and it worked considerably better than it should have.
Power Sockets and a Stand
Twelve-volt outlets and a centre stand mounting alongside the bags. It was a serious attempt at the format rather than a taller screen and a sticker.
Nothing Replaced It
Ducati dropped the Hyperstrada after the 939 and left the space empty. The owners who found it keep their bikes, which has made used examples genuinely difficult to buy.
