A Naked Bike With Rider Aids
In 2011 traction control on a naked motorcycle was rare and launch control was almost unheard of. Aprilia fitted both, plus wheelie control and a quickshifter, and let the rider adjust them without closing the throttle.
Adjusted With the Left Thumb
The APRC settings are walked through from this block while moving. Riders change traction level as a road dries or a track rubbers in, which means these particular contacts have seen far more cycles than the horn.
Fourteen Years of Weather
The earliest of these bikes have been through fourteen winters. The moulded blocks reach a point where one function works when it feels like it, and the factory remedy is the complete assembly rather than a contact.
Detuned, Not Diminished
The 999.6 cc V4 made 167 hp here against the RSV4's 180, with fixed intake trumpets and softer cams. It was still among the most powerful naked bikes on sale and it sounded identical to the superbike.
Sealed Contacts
Military-specification elements inside a milled body. Ingress is what ends switchgear of this age, and there is no clipped cover on this unit for the water to work past.
Black or Titanium
Anodised through the surface rather than printed onto it. The legends on a fourteen-year-old original have usually faded to the point of being decorative; there are none here to lose.
The Same Plug
Aprilia did not change this connector across the generation, so the unit is pre-wired and drops straight on. Two screws and one plug is the entire job.
