Winglets From 2019
BMW integrated them into the fairing rather than bolting them on, developed alongside the racing programme. They produce measurable downforce at circuit speed.
A Hundred and Ninety-Seven Horsepower
From a 999 cc four with variable valve timing. The current RR is easier to ride fast than any of its predecessors and quicker than all of them.

More S1000RRs see track days than any other BMW, and preparation is routine: lights, mirrors, plate and stand, in that order and in one evening.
A Warning Lamp at Scrutineering
Organisers read any lit fault indicator as an unresolved problem. Satisfying the interlock properly avoids a conversation at the gate.
Why It Exists
Because forgetting is easy and the consequence is a locked rear wheel at a junction. The switch has prevented a great many low-speed accidents.
Where the Switch Lives
Bolted to the stand bracket, low on the left of the frame, directly in the spray from the front wheel.
An Open Circuit
That is all the controller sees, and it cannot distinguish it from a broken wire. The engine cuts in gear either way.
Plugged Straight In
BMW's own connector, no adapters and nothing spliced. It takes about as long as finding the plug does.
Documented
Noting the change somewhere obvious saves the next person diagnosing an interlock that no longer behaves as the manual describes.
Why the Stand Is Always First
Every preparation list starts the same way, because until the engine will run with a gear selected nothing else can be checked. Fitting this before the mirrors, the plate and the lights come off saves a second trip round the motorcycle.
