Aluminium Panniers
BMW's own cases are structural enough to stand on and wide enough to notice in traffic. On an Adventure they are usually fitted permanently rather than removed between trips.

A Simple Interlock
Gear position and stand position are read together. If both say the wrong thing at once, the engine stops before the motorcycle moves.

Bolted to the stand bracket, low on the left of the frame, directly in the spray from the front wheel.
Stalled on the Grid
The failure mode that matters: a bike that will not pull away with a gear engaged, at the moment it needs to.
Five Minutes
One connector near the swingarm pivot, reached without removing bodywork. It is the quickest job on any preparation list.
A Deliberate Decision
Removing an interlock should follow a reason rather than a habit. On a bike that no longer has a stand, the reason is obvious.
After a Fall
A drop on the left side lands on the stand, and a bent bracket puts the switch out of position even when the switch itself is undamaged. The symptoms are identical to a failure.
