What Bolts to the Heads
Two reed housings, fed by hoses from the airbox, admitting air on every closed throttle. They are the mechanical half of the system.
A Chromoly Trellis
KTM welds the frame from tubing rather than casting it, which is unusual at this power level and gives the Super Duke the feedback it is known for.
Reeds Crack
Heat and repetition eventually split them, after which exhaust gas travels back up the hose. The soot in the airbox is the first visible sign.
Billet and an O-Ring
A solid plug sealing in a turned groove. There is nothing inside to fail and no service interval attached to it.
Both Sides
The V-twin carries the system twice, so both heads have to be closed for the deletion to mean anything.
A Bike That Sees Dynos
Super Dukes are mapped, exhausted and measured more than almost anything else in the class. Honest gas readings require the air injection gone.
Ten Model Years
KTM changed the frame and the bodywork twice without touching this arrangement, so one part number serves the whole run.

The Beast
KTM's own name for the motorcycle, and for once the marketing department was being accurate rather than optimistic. The Super Duke R has defined what a naked bike can be for a decade by refusing to behave sensibly about the engine, the chassis or the riding position.
